Alleykat Streetcar Cask
Each summer and going into Autumn, the High Level Bridge Streetcar offers Edmontonions and tourists an opportunity to take in the beautiful sights of the Edmonton River Valley - North America’s largest urban stretch of parkland (yes, even beating Central Park). The High Level Streetcar has been a staple of the Edmonton River Valley for over a century now, and does so on a volunteer basis. Adding a little spice to the mix, The Common and AlleyKat brewing offered the chance to celebrate the Streetcar and homegrown local Albertan beer this past Thursday by chartering the infamous Streetcar.
Patiently awaiting the good times
With the sun shining bright, the beer flowing by, and the people feeling alive, Alley Kat and The Common’s collaborative Streetcar felt like a true sip of summer. Since opening its doors in 1994, AlleyKat has become the model for Alberta Brewing done right and has the 2019 Gold Medal for Best Brewery at the Alberta Beer Awards to prove it. Setting us off on the right foot, and having done so for almost a decade, The Common continues to be Edmonton Made and celebrate Alberta breweries, foodies, and artists by providing the venue and atmosphere to keep spirits high and the fantastic times a-go.
Amber: AlleyKat’s most loyal and loveable
Like every Railcar Cask, the brewery unveils a new brew the hopmaster’s have been hard at work on. Each AlleyKat beer was first brewed like a homebrew, as a means to not use too many extraneous materials and make sure the beer is worth making. After that the brewing process begins and what we are left with is a delicious brew. This past Thursday’s feature cask was A Blackbeary Sour.
Tapping the cask
Modeled after the Common x AlleyKat “Raspbeary” Beret, this Blackbeary Sour is an easy drinking, crisp cask with hints of tart and blackberry. An approachable beer for all, it is bound to be a summer go-to for those sweet sunset patio parties.
The railcar is an opportunity for anyone young or old (at least, drinking age) to take in a relaxing view of the Edmonton skyline and do so in the company of good friends and a good brew.
Rob Clarke gives cheers to a successful event
With a passion for all things Alberta and AlleyKat, The Barfather, Rob Clarke, had us in good hands and set an invigorating tone for a serene and exciting Streetcar. After an hour and a half of chatting, gabbing, and making memories, the Railcar heads back to the meeting spot near The Common. With not only a free drink, but a variety of cuisine and entertainment, The Common provides you the atmosphere that keeps the mantra of where “Food, Culture, and Music Meet” alive and well.
